FINALLY FINISHED MY GRANDSON'S CARS QUILT

WOO HOO - I finished my grandson's quilt in plenty of time to mail it off for his 11th birthday!!  I am so proud of myself for not waiting until the last hour, which is sooooo like me.

All rolled up and ready to snuggle.  This is a raggedity scrappidy quilt with a cars theme.

Route 66 charm packs and yardage of antique convertibles and sports cars along with the blue jeans squares make up the front. In the top left corner you can see the polar fleece I have on the back.  It is navy blue, dark green with a slight plaid of yellow and red pinstripes.

Thanks for stopping by.  To see other quilts that I have completed, click on "HOME" at the bottom of this page and then click on QUILTS at the top of the home page.

Can I get an ATTABOY for completing this in time PULEASE???

MORE STITCHING ON MY GRANDSON'S CAR QUILT

I have been trying to work about 20-30 minutes every morning on Collin's birthday car quilt and have been making some real progress.

I am up on a stool trying to take the photo of it lying across my queen bed.  Not a very good angle, but I wanted you to see how much I have completed so far.  YIPPEE, starting to look like a quilt!!

Closer look from directly down on the quilt.  I have one more "panel" of the printed cars and 3 more rows of blue jeans and I will be ready to start the quilting and snipping the raggedy edges.  Who is that I see in the upper right hand corner?

Jewel the Pomeranian (Joo Joo she is affectionately called) jumped up the moment I put the quilt on the bed and thought perhaps she would claim this one as her own. She immediately started primping herself to get ready for a nice nap.  Here she is primping her little toes.  Does your dog ever do that?  She can spend 30 minutes on her feet until they are just how she wants them.  (they don't look any different to me when she is done.)

Thanks for visiting.  Stay tuned for more progress in the coming weeks.  My deadline is to have it shipped by May 15th, so I am chugging along as quickly as I can.

SCRUFFY RAGGEDY GRANDSON'S QUILT

CARS ARE IN MY GRANDSON'S DREAMS I AM SURE.  WHENEVER HE SEES CARS ON TV, ETC. HE BLURTS OUT WHAT KIND OF CAR IT IS AND SOMETIMES EVEN THE YEAR!!  AT 10 YRS OLD NO LESS.  WHAT A BOY!!  HE WILL BE 11 NEXT MONTH AND I ACTUALLY STARTED HIS QUILT EARLY SO I AM NOT STRESSING ABOUT GETTING IT DONE ON TIME (YOU NEVER DO THAT I AM SURE).

THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS, PLEASE REMEMBER.  I HAVE SEWN IT SO MOST OF THE SEAMS ARE FACING THE RIGHT SIDE AND THEN WILL CLIP THEM AND WASH AND DRY IT SEVERAL TIMES TO GET A NICE RUFFLEY FRINGE ON THE EDGES.

THE 2 CHARM PACKS I PURCHASED ARE CALLED: GET YOUR KICKS by Dan Morris for RJR Fabrics.  DO YOU REMEMBER THE SONG:  GET YOUR KICKS ON ROUTE 66?

THE CHARM PACKS ONLY HAVE 36 PIECES IN THEM SO I PURCHASED TWO OF THEM TO MAKE SURE I HAVE ENOUGH.  AND SOMEONE GAVE ME A BUNCH OF PRECUT BLUE JEAN SQUARES THAT I PAIRED THEM UP WITH BUT GUESS WHAT - THEY WERE BIGGER THAN 5 INCHES LIKE THE CHARMS.  WHAT'S A GIRL TO DO?  I DECIDED SINCE IT IS RAGGEDY ALREADY, I WILL JUST ADD A PIECE TO THE BOTTOM OR SIDE OF THE CHARM AND SEW ON.

THEN.....I DECIDED I WANTED SOME ROWS OF FABRIC TO GIVE THE EYES A PLACE TO REST.  (CAN YOU SEE HERE THAT I DON'T HAVE A PATTERN AND AM JUST WINGING IT?) LOW AND BEHOLD I FOUND THIS ONE AT JO ANNS ON SALE THIS WEEK AND GRABBED A YARD.  YIPPEE.

THEY WILL LOOK REALLY GOOD TOGETHER.  I THINK IT IS A KNOCK OFF OF THE DAN MORRIS FABRIC BECAUSE THE CARDS AND ARE SAME VINTAGE TIME.

SO I HAVE ABOUT HALF OF THE FLIMSY DONE SO FAR.  I AM GOING TO SEW THE FABRIC STRIPS ON AND THEN ADD A FEW MORE ROWS AND SEE HOW IT IS LOOKING.

QUESTION FOR YOU QUILTERS OUT THERE:  I HAVE SOME NICE POLAR FLEECE I WOULD LIKE TO USE FOR THE BACKING.  I WAS THINKING I WOULD ACTUALLY USE IT AS BACKING/BATTING AND NOT ADD ANY ADDITIONAL BATTING TO IT.  WILL THAT WORK?  IS THERE ANYTHING SPECIAL I NEED TO KNOW WHEN SEWING THIS POLAR FLEECE TO COTTON FABRICS?

YOUR HELP WOULD BE SINCERELY APPRECIATED!!

THANKS FOR STOPPING BY.  STAY TUNED FOR MORE CONSTRUCTION IN THE NEXT WEEK OR TWO.

P.S.  THE REASON YOU HAVE NOT SEEN MY CHARMING CHEVRONS QUILT COMPLETED IS BECAUSE IT IS WAY TOO SMALL AND I AM WORKING ON ADDING SEVERAL BORDERS TO TRY TO GET IT BIGGER.  SINCE I AM AGAIN WINGING IT, IT IS SLOW GOING BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO RUIN THIS ONE.  I AM LOVING HOW IT LOOKS AND JUST WAITING FOR A BIT MORE FABRIC TO ARRIVE BEFORE I SEW ON SOME MORE BORDERS.

I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR IDEAS AND THOUGHTS.
