TIPS AND TRICK TO SAVE

HEY BLOGGIES,

Today I have a tip and trick to help you save in your crafting supplies.  We all appreciate when we can save on our supplies, don't we?  Well, I discovered something that is not only going to save you money but also is so stinkin' cute!!

I noticed in a lot of my craft stores and other places that odd sized and unusual color envelopes were always marked way down for clearance. It got me thinking and I came up with a way to use these odd sizes as well as make them ADORABLE at the same time.

My card above is the standard 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 size.  See it sitting on my sale envelope on the right and the envelope is way too big. Here is what you do:

1.  lick and seal up the envelope.
2.  put the card on top of the sealed envie the best way it would fit comfortably.
3.  measure up a half inch and make a pencil mark and then cut the envie with your paper cutter.
4.  cut a piece of designer paper the width of the opening now in the envie and 2 1/2 tall.
5.  score the designer paper in half and round the corners.
6.  glue the designer paper to the inside of the envie against the part of the envie that was sealed.  that is the back of the envie
7.  the cute flap will come over to the front and show nicely when you address your card.

Here is the card and matching designer envelope.  When someone receives this designer envelope, it is a special hint at what awaits for them inside.

Hope you enjoyed this hint and trick.

If you have any questions, let me know.

CREATING YOUR OWN OPEN-ENDED STRING-CLOSURE ENVIES

For special occasions, I LOVE my envelope to match my card.  It shows special care and love to the recipient.  I was delighted when I saw instructions on Jackie Topa's blog to make these cute open ended envies with string closures.  They are in the new Annual Catalog on several pages and now we can ALL know how to make them.  Thanks, Jackie.

This one I am going to show you is for a regular 5 1/2 x 4 1/2" sized card.  Let's get started.

Cut a piece of designer paper at 10 1/4 x 6 3/4".  Score 1" up from the bottom and 1" down from the top.  The widest measurement is going across the WIDTH.  Put your card on top of the envie and score 1/8" wider than the card on both sides. Now cut off the tabs where the scorelines intersect on each side.

Use your hole punch or Crop-a-Dile to punch holes for the top and bottom brad closures.  The bottom brad must be punched BEFORE you adhere the two sides together or else it might be too close to the top flap when closed.   Add little punched out circles of card stock or paper with a brad.  Tie a piece of string around the top brad.  Then adhere the two sides together.

Round the corners of the top and bottom flaps and adhere the bottom flap.

When you are ready to insert your card and close up your envelope, just wrap your string around the bottom brad a few times and you are finished!!

If you have any questions, please let me know.  ALSO, if you would like directions on how to make these for OTHER SIZED cards, leave me a comment and I will post those directions as well.

Thanks for stopping by.

PP97 and GLITTER QUEEN BLOG HOP....DAY TWO

WOW!!  WEREN'T THOSE PROJECTS AWESOME FROM ALL THE GLITTER QUEENS YESTERDAY??!!  I HAVE A FEW I WANT TO MAKE MYSELF.

I WANT TO THANK MY MANAGER, DAWN GRIFFITH, FOR STARTING OFF OUR BLOG HOP EACH DAY.  IT SURE IS FUN TO DO PROJECTS WHEN WE KNOW THAT LOTS OF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO VIEW THEM AND ENJOY THEM.

TODAY I HAVE ANOTHER FOLDING TECHNIQUE.  THIS TIME IT IS A CARD CALLED A DOUBLE GATE FOLD CARD.  AND I HAVE USED SOME NEW CATALOG ITEMS FOR YOU TO SEE!!  WOO HOO.
HERE IS THE CARD ALL FINISHED.  I USED THE NEW DSP FLORAL DISTRICT, (item #126919).  LOVE THE COLORS IN IT.  I ALSO USED A PIECE OF CARD STOCK IN THE NEW IN COLOR SUMMER STARFRUIT FOR THE INSIDE.  I USED SUMMER STARFRUIT AND PRIMROSE PETALS INKS FOR THE FLOWER AND PUNCHED IT WITH THE SCALLOP PUNCH AND THE 3/4" CIRCLE PUNCH FOR THE CENTER.

details:

  • 5-1/2" x 12" piece of Designer Series Paper (FLORAL DISTRICT DSP), Scored at 2", 4", 8", and 10" ON YOUR SIMPLY SCORED.
  • Turn and make a small mark at 2-3/4 on both ends
  • SUMMER STARFRUIT CARD STOCK  CUT AT 3 7/8" X 5 1/8".

HERE IT IS ALL SCORED AND FOLDED.

HERE IS A BIRD'S EYE VIEW LOOKING DOWN AT THE CARD ALL SCORED & FOLDED

THIS IS THE BACK SIDE OF MY DSP. THIS SIDE IS JUST AS PRETTY, ISN'T IT?  FROM THE 4" SCORE LINE DIAGONALLY TO THE MARK WE PUT ON EACH SIDE, YOU CUT OFF THE TRIANGLE IT CREATES WITH YOUR PAPER CUTTER.  CUT OFF BOTH SIDES AND SAVE THEM TO USE ON THE FRONT.

YOUR SUMMER STARFRUIT CARD STOCK PIECE WILL FIT INSIDE (3 7/8" X
5 1/8".)  HERE IS THE PHOTO OF THE CARD STOCK APPLIED INSIDE AND THE TWO TRIANGLES GLUED TO THE FRONT BOTTOM EDGES.

THIS IS A CLOSEUP SO YOU CAN SEE THE TRIANGLE PIECE AND HOW IT IS GLUED IN PLACE.

I ADDED ANOTHER STAMPED AND PUNCHED FLOWER FROM BUTTON BUDDIES STAMP SET ON THE INSIDE AS WELL.  I USED THE ROCK AND ROLL TECHNIQUE WITH PRIMROSE PETALS AND SUMMER STARFRUIT INK.  YOU CAN SEE THE CENTER IS PUNCHED WITH THE  3/4" CIRCLE PUNCH AND IS UP ON DIMENSIONALS.

NOW TO MAKE A PRETTY ENVELOPE TO GO WITH THIS BEAUTIFUL CARD.  TAKE A LARGE ENVELOPE AND SEAL IT UP.  THEN MEASURE WHERE YOUR CARD GOES AND CUT OFF THE REMAINDER OF THE ENVELOPE LEAVING 1/4" MORE THAN THE SIZE OF THE CARD.  MY CARD IS GOING TO FIT CROSSWISE IN THIS ENVELOPE.
NOW CUT A PIECE OF MATCHING DSP ABOUT 1 3/4" TO 2" WIDE BY THE LENGTH OF THE ENVELOPE.  PUT A SCORE LINE AT 3/4" AND FOLD.  PUT GOOD GLUE ON THE BACK OF THE SMALLER PIECE AND SLIDE IT INTO THE ENVELOPE TO ADHERE.  THIS WILL BE THE DECORATED FLAP.

I LIKE THE FLAP TO COME TO THE FRONT OF THE ENVELOPE, WHICH IS DIFFERENT FROM MOST ENVELOPES.  THAT IS BECAUSE I WANT IT TO SHOW UP PRETTY.

I USED MY RASPBERRY RIPPLE AND PRIMROSE PETALS MARKERS AND COLORED A FEW PETALS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DSP FLOWER ON THE FLAP. YOU CAN SEE THAT UNDER MY THUMB.

I LOVE HAVING A MATCHING ENVELOPE FOR MY SPECIALLY CREATED CARDS.

THE FLOWER STAMP IS FROM BUTTON BUDDIES AND MATCHES SO WELL TO THIS PAPER I THINK.  THE SCALLOP PUNCHED FLOWER IS ONLY ATTACHED TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE TWO FRONT FOLDS.  IT IS NOT ATTACHED TO THE RIGHT SIDE SO THAT IT CAN OPEN.

I HAVE BLOG CANDY TO GIVE AWAY.  MAKE SURE YOU ARE A FOLLOWER AND LEAVE ME A COMMENT TODAY AND ALL DAYS OF THIS BLOG HOP.  I WILL DRAW THE WINNER AFTER THE HOP IS OVER.
