COMPLETED MIXED MEDIA OWL

HELLO BLOGGIES - HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

My friend, Tammy, and I completed our Mixed Media  owl pieces today.  I wanted to share with you the final photos.

The base of the owl art piece is a 4 x 4 drink coaster, covered with scrapbook papers.  The owl is drawn on chipboard with fine tipped marker, shaded with markers and the have added embellishments.

So we both drew our own owls and you can see they came out very different.  The scarf and the vest on the owls are similar but still different so we did them ourselves.  Tammy added a cute treat with signs on it, while I added a hanging word sign below the piece.

Thanks for visiting my blog.  Stay tuned for more crafting, quilting and paper playing.

MOSTLY NON STAMPIN' UP! MIXED MEDIA ART PIECE

HEY BLOGGIES,

I thought I would share with you some of the NON-Stampin' Up! hobbies I also have.  Besides my quilting, which you can see the quilts I made last year by clicking the QUILTS tab at the top of this blog, I also like many other crafting mediums.

I used to do wood pieces and sold them every year at the craft fairs.  I made checkerboards with fun pieces like frogs and turtles, I made wooden signs of all kinds, snowmen were my favorite and every one in my family have a snowman family with their names on them.  I even made fun mini nativity sets and sure wish I kept one for ME!!  Most of my things I was so tired of by the time I made so many that I just sold them until they were gone.  Unfortunately, with all the China imports, it is no longer cost effective to do my woodworking so I quit about 5 yrs ago.

However, I am into mixed media art and really enjoying trying new things.  My friend, Tammy, and I are working on some pieces to hang on the wall.  We are close to being finished with our OWL piece, but still have a few more things to add - some baubles and beads, twine, glitter, etc.  but I thought I would share with you so you could see some of the other things I enjoy doing:

This first photo is after we got the owl drawn, shaded, painted and cut out, then we added designer papers on the 4 x 4 coaster:

The drawing of the whimsey owl is done with fine point marker on Braithwaite paper.  It is double outlined everywhere so the lines show up well.  Then I used various shades of gray to shade the whole picture of owl and scarf, etc.  Then used markers to color him in, and sharpies too.

Then used paper snips (YIPPEE TO STAMPIN' UP! FOR THOSE!!) to cut out the owl and set him aside.  I used a pressed paper drink coaster that is 4 x 4 inches.  I covered it with three different papers in the woodlands theme.  I even found that TREES word on one of the papers and knew I had to use it here.  The eyebrows are separately cut out and glued onto the owl for dimension.  The rest of the dimension is from shading and highlighting.  That was the FUN part to do.

Here he is now with the fringe on his scarf.  Isn't he just a dandy looking guy ready for some winter fun??!!

He is attached with SU's STAMPIN DIMENSIONALS and I used GLUE DOTS for the snowflake button and TOMBOW GLUE for the yarn fringe.

Hope you enjoyed seeing my cute little OWL.  Stop back again and I will show him all finished with his hanger and his hanging beads, etc. that completed the piece.

Don't forget to leave me a comment to be entered into the BLOG CANDY/BIRTHDAY drawing.

See my previous post to know how to get more than one chance to win.  Today I am picking a winner!!

ANOTHER ART PIECE CHRISTMAS GIFT TAG - PAPER PIECING

hey bloggies,

How did you like my art piece from yesterday?  I hope you enjoyed it.  Here is another inspired by the guy who is well known in the paper crafting world.  I love grunge and altered items and he does it so well, doesn't he?

I love PAPER PIECING - I call it 3-D imaging!  ha ha  I used three layers of stamped and cut out snowman pieces.

The pieces of the snowman's hat, holly berries, nose, stick arms, and scarf are all 3-D pieces.  His body is also layered as you can see better in the next photo.

For those of you who want to know the name of the stamp set and thinlits dies, please send me an email or leave a message where I can reply back to you.  I am not allowed to advertise other companies on my blog.

I shaded him with some baked brown sugar ink and then added some dazzling details.

Although this last photo is out of focus, you can see very clearly the three layers I used here.

Here is a card I made with the same stamp set and dies:
I used a coastal cabana layer behind the top layer to coordinate with the snowman's hat band and scarf.

I have entered this at THE FRIDAY MASHUP - use crumb cake or craft.

Hope you enjoyed looking at my paper piecing 3-D imaging snowman.  It was so fun to create him and I am VERY PLEASED how he turned out!!

CHRISTMAS TAGS FOR MY FAMILY--AN ART PIECE

HEY BLOGGIES,

I am starting a bit early, but I am working on MY personal Christmas tags and gift wrappings for MY FAMILY.  Because I am doing that, I can use whatever items I want to, right??  Soooo, there is a certain person in the crafting world that every year does the 12 tags of Christmas and I love his style.  I created this Christmas tag with some of his crafting items and his style.  Hope you enjoy seeing this ART PIECE.
There is a lot going on here, but it all adds up to an ART PIECE.  It all started with the kraft tag, then an embossing folder, then some gold encore ink, then some Snow Stuff.
The JOY is made with stickers, the blue is Distress paint, then a chipboard deer piece with distress paint and white shimmer and blue spritzing.  A doily spritzed and folder as well.
The three pine cones are made with recycled packing paper that I sponged all sorts of browns all over it, ripped into a circle and ripped into a spiral and glued back into a circle.  A small fake piece of pine bough is underneath the cones.  Also some more of the fake snow put on the pine cones and all over the tag.

Knitted cord in cherry cobbler from the clearance rack for the tag tie and VOILA - it is FINI.

I would love to hear what you think of my artful gift tag.

I am entering this at THE FRIDAY MASHUP.
