CHARITY QUILTS

HEY BLOGGIES,

It's that time of year again:  where my friends and I get together to sew up charity quilts for our local community.  They are more like throws, blankets, "kivers", etc. than real quilts.  But we like to call them quilts.  Since our goal is to get a lot of them done, we don't do the normal hand quilting on them that takes soooooooo many hours.  Instead, we either quilt them by machine or just do some straight stitching here and there on them to keep them together during washings.

So, here are a few we made in the last two weeks.  There are only 3 of us so far working on these, but others are planning to come in the next few weeks:

You can't really see the pattern on this soft and snuggly quilt, but it is little blue teddy bears.  The back is a rose red fleece so nice and cuddly.  This is a tied baby blanket.

A few of the ladies have a long arm quilting machine and they are practicing with it.  They donated the pieces they long arm quilted and all we had to do was sew a binding on them.  This is one of them.  This is for a senior citizen for a lap blanket or wheelchair blanket.

This is a great male pattern with tools and implements on the soft fleece.  The back is a beige and this one is also yarn tied.

Another one that was a practice piece for the long arm quilter.  I love the deep navy blue and the pretty pattern of blues on white on the other side.  I created a binding for this one for the two sides and for the top and bottom I used a self binding of the navy blue side back against the printed side.  It came out very nice I think.

LET'S MAKE BABY QUILTS

and a few more places I can't remember at the moment.  Sorry.  IF you see this post at a different place than these two above, please leave me a comment to tell me where you saw it!!  Thanks!!

Thanks for stopping by.  IF any of you have any fleece or flannel or soft fabrics we could use to make more baby blankets, we would be happy to receive that gift and will make more charity quilts.

More will be posted as we progress on our projects.  A very pretty embroidery machine applique is in the making and I can't wait to see it finished.

SKETCH FRENZY FRIDAY -- WISHING FOR SPRING

HEY BLOGGIES,

My card today is showing you that I am WISHING FOR SPRING.  Flamingos are a tropical bird and I would love to be feeling the tropical heat and sunshine right now.  We aren't as bad as New England is for sure, but I am sick of the cold wet weather we are having in February.  My pasture is just one big mud pit for my horses.  With all the MUD on them they pretty much look like dirty little homeless beggars!!  Black mud up past their knees!!

Anyways, here is the sketch challenge for this week's SKETCH FRENZY FRIDAY:

And here is my take on the sketch.  For some reason, I just couldn't do only 3 flamingos.  I had to do four.  Oh well, four is my lucky number anyway so that's ok, right?

This is the charity set that Stampin' Up! donates a portion of the sale of this stamp set to the Ronald McDonald House each year.  It is called FLAMINGO LINGO.  These flamingos are so fun in different colors, aren't they?
A closeup so you can see their cute expressions.  I absolutely L.O.V.E. their knobby knees!!

This would classify as a Clean and Simple card I believe.  I used a mask so each flamingo could be real close to his "buddy" without stamping on top of him.

Thanks for visiting.

MY HOUSE QUILT BLOCK IS GOING INTO A COMMUNITY NEIGHBORHOOD QUILT

HEY BLOGGIES,

I just wanted to share a fun charity project I participated in this past month.  We were asked to create any 12" block of a house and it would be added to all the submitted blocks to become one big charity quilt.

I had a smaller 8" house block I was working on so I just added a driveway with some cars and some side pieces and it was all good.

I needs to be ironed again after being mailed in a small envelope, but this is my creation to go into the neighborhood quilt.

Here are some of the blocks Beth received and put together to show us the different submissions.

You can see my block in the second row on the far left.  I like that it shows up so much against the other white or light background blocks.  Fun!!

To see more about the neighborhood charity quilt, visit Beth at:

Thanks, Beth for the opportunity to participate!!  It was fun and I am looking forward to doing it again.

ANOTHER QUILT FOR KIDS IS THIS ADORABLE WINNIE THE POOH AND TIGGER QUILT.  THE FABRIC FOR THE BACKING THE THE SQUARES IS SO ADORABLE AND LOOKS LIKE QUILTED FABRIC, BUT IT IS ONE PIECE.  THE FOUR PATCHES ARE MADE WITH SOLIDS.

HERE IS THE FRONT OF THE QUILT WITH THE FOUR PATCHES IN BLUE AND GREEN.  THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER HAS BEEN FLIPPED UP SO YOU CAN SEE THE SAME FABRIC ON THE BACK AS IN THE SOLID BLOCKS. A NARROW MUSTARD YELLOW BORDER DEFINES THE EDGE OF THE QUILT BEFORE THE  FABRIC BORDER WAS ADDED.

THE FABRIC IS SO ADORABLE.  LOTS OF SLEEPING POOHS, TIGERS, AND EORES.  THIS IS SOLID FABRIC THAT LOOKS LIKE PATCHWORK. (BACK OF QUILT)

A FUN CARS QUILT FEATURING "TOW MATER"?

PIXAR AND DISNEY - PERFECT FOR ANY KID, DON'T YOU THINK?  THIS CUTE QUILT WE MADE FOR QUILTS FOR KIDS CHARITY IS A RAIL FENCE DESIGN.  ALL OUR OTHERS WERE 4 PATCH, BUT THIS ONE WAS FUN IN THAT IT IS A RAIL FENCE PATTERN.

THE FRONT OF THIS QUILT IS MADE FROM 4 STRIPS OF FABRIC, TWO OF THEM BEING "CARS" THEMED, AND ONE OF THEM BEING THE RED FABRIC WITH A SHADOW OF MICKY MOUSE EARS THAT WE USED FOR THE BACKING. YOU CAN SEE THE BACKING FOLDED UP ON THE BOTTOM CORNER TO GET AN IDEA OF HOW THE TWO SIDES COORDINATE.

HERE IS A CLOSER VIEW OF HOW THE RAILS PATTERN SHOW UP SO WELL WITH THE DARK FABRIC.  I LOVE THAT PATTERN.  A RAIL FENCE QUILT WAS MY VERY FIRST QUILT I EVER MADE WAY BACK IN THE EARLY 70S WHEN MY KIDS WERE JUST LITTLE BABIES.  SO THIS PATTERN IS VERY DEAR TO ME.

HERE IS THAT CUTE FACE OF THE TOW TRUCK CALLED "MATER".  GOOFY FACE THAT WINS YOUR HEART IN THE MOVIE.

I KNOW MATER WILL FIND JUST THE RIGHT PERSON TO BELONG TO AT THE HOSPITAL!!

THANKS FOR STOPPING BY.

ANOTHER QUILT FOR KIDS - JUNGLE THEME

HEY ALL!!  HOPE YOU ARE NOT TIRED OF SEEING THESE ADORABLE QUILTS WE HAVE BEEN BUSY MAKING, BECAUSE WE ARE NOT TIRED OF MAKING THEM!!  EACH ONE HAS BEEN SO ADORABLE WE DON'T THINK WE COULD LOVE ANOTHER ONE ANY MORE, AND THEN WE MAKE A NEW ONE AND IT BECOMES OUR NEW FAVORITE!!  DOES THAT HAPPEN TO YOU TOO?

THIS QUILT STARTED OUT AS A LARGE FABRIC PANEL THAT MY FRIEND NORA GAVE TO ME WHEN SHE MOVED. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO WITH IT, BUT I KNEW SOMETHING WOULD COME UP ONE DAY.  TWO YEARS LATER, HERE WE ARE MAKING QUILTS FOR KIDS AND IT SEEMED LIKE IT NEEDED TO BELONG TO A KID!!

HERE YOU CAN SEE THE FULL JUNGLE PANEL WITH THE LARGE ELEPHANTS ON THE FRONT.  WE ADDED SOME OF THE FABRIC TO THE TOP AND BOTTOM TO MAKE IT A RECTANGULAR SIZE INSTEAD OF SQUARE.  ALSO YOU CAN SEE JUST A PEAK OF WHAT KRISTI CAME UP WITH FOR THE BACK.

FOR THE BACK KRISTI DESIGNED USING THE LEFT OVER JUNGLE FABRIC TO MAKE SQUARES AND THEN MADE FOUR PATCH BLOCKS OUT OF JEAN AND CHAMBRAY COLORED COTTONS.  SHE BORDERED THESE PATCHES WITH A VERY LIGHT BLUE COTTON CLOTH AND MADE A NICE WIDE BORDER WITH THE SAME LIGHT BLUE.  SO CUTE!!
HERE IS A CLOSER VIEW OF THE BLOCKS ON THE BACK.  I LOVE HER DESIGN WITH THE FOUR PATCHES AND THE JUNGLE PRINT.  IT IS JUST PERFECT FOR THAT SPECIAL SOMEONE.

ONE MORE CLOSEUP OF THE MAIN BULL ELEPHANT ON THE JUNGLE SIDE, WITH A CORNER OF THE QUILT FOLDED OVER SO YOU CAN SEE HOW THE LIGHT BLUE GOES SO WELL WITH THE WHOLE OVERALL FEEL OF THE QUILT.  LOVE IT!!

I HAVE SEEN THESE FABRIC PANELS ON DEEPLY DISCOUNTED SALE TABLES AT SEVERAL STORES.  THIS HAS GIVEN ME A WHOLE NEW IDEA FOR SOME MORE QUILTS WE CAN MAKE FOR THE KIDS!!

THANKS FOR VISITING MY BLOG AND SEEING WHAT MY FRIENDS AND I HAVE CREATED FOR OUR CHARITY QUILTS.  IF YOU HAVE ANY SCRAPS, PANELS, LEFTOVER FABRIC OR BATTING YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE PUT TO GOOD USE, WON'T YOU CONSIDER DONATING IT TO US SO WE CAN MAKE IT INTO SOME COMFORTING QUILTS FOR KIDS WHO ARE HOSPITALIZED?

OR GET SOME FRIENDS TOGETHER AND MAKE YOUR OWN QUILTS TO TAKE TO YOUR LOCAL HOSPITAL FOR THOSE SPECIAL KIDS IN YOUR AREA.  IT IS FUN TO BE WITH FRIENDS AND QUILT a n d IT FEELS GOOD KNOWING WE ARE HELPING KIDS AS WELL!!

UNTIL NEXT TIME!!

SEW, WE MAKE MORE CARDS...

AS YOU SAW THIS PAST WEEK, I WAS GOING TO TOWN ON MY SEWING MACHINE WITH SOME QUILTS FOR SICK KIDS IN THE HOSPITAL.  I LOVE TO QUILT AND SEW, AND THE ADDED BONUS OF DOING IT FOR CHARITY SURE MAKES IT EVEN MORE FUN TO DO.

IN KEEPING WITH THE THEME OF SEWING, I THOUGHT I WOULD CASE A CARD I SAW WHEN I WAS BLURFING (BLOG-SURFING).  THIS SEW SUITE STAMP SET WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SETS AND I WILL NEVER GET RID OF IT.  I FEEL CERTAIN SOME MORE IN THIS SEWING THEME WILL BE COMING BACK AND PROBABLY VERY SIMILAR TO THIS SET.

THE CARD BASE IS CRUMB CAKE THAT HAS BEEN HAND CUT TO LOOK LIKE A SPOOL.  IT IS THE REGULAR 4 1/4 BY 5 1/2 SIZE, BUT FOLDING FROM THE TOP AND CUTTING THE LONGWAYS FROM THE FULL PIECE OF CARD STOCK.  I USED AN EMBOSSING FOLDER ON THE ENDS TO TRY TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE WOOD, AND SPONGED SOME SOFT SUEDE OVER THE EMBOSSING AND ALONG THE EDGES.

THE SCISSORS ARE MADE WITH GUMBALL GREEN AND BASIC GRAY CARD STOCK.  I USED AN ANTIQUE BRAD TO HOLD THE TWO SIDES OF THE SCISSORS TOGETHER.

AREN'T THESE LITTLE "BUTTONS" SO CUTE ON THIS CARD?  HERE THE BUTTONS CARD IS STAMPED ON VERY VANILLA WITH EARLY ESPRESSO INK. I USED THE IN-COLOR DESIGNER BRADS TO LOOK LIKE THE BUTTONS, IN ISLAND INDIGO, POOL PARTY, CALYPSO CORAL AND LUCKY LIMEADE.

THE LITTLE LABELS STAMP SAYS "FOR YOU" AND I DIE CUT IT WITH THE BIGGER LABEL FRAMELITS DIE AND MY BIG SHOT.  I HAVE IT RIPPLE-WAVE UP A BIT AND USED MINI GLUE DOTS ON EACH END.  OH YES, I PUT SOME BAKERS TWINE AROUND THE SPOOL AND TIED IT WITH A KNOT.

THANKS TO HEATHER CSERNI FOR THIS CLEVER IDEA ON HER BLOG.  YOU ROCK HEATHER!!

ANOTHER VIEW OF THIS FUN SEWING THEMED CARD I MADE.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOME OF YOUR CARDS IN THE SEWING THEME.  CAN YOU SHARE THEM WITH ME PLEASE?

HERE'S TO INKY FINGERS Y'ALL.  GET CRAFTY AND HAVE FUN!!
