A SIMPLE CHARITY QUILT

HEY BLOGGIES,

I made a very simple, quick long tv quilt for the flood victims in Louisiana.  Many men from our church took all completed quilts with them to one of our churches in Louisiana while the men helped the flood victims tear out drywall, dispose of damaged items, etc.  The quilts as well as many more items were given out to those who lost everything with these damaging floods.

A sister in church has a long arm quilting machine and she practiced quilting two solid pieces of brushed cotton with a very thin piece of batting in it.  Then she donated it to those of us who are making the quilts for charity.  I then put two pretty scrap blocks, one on each side, and bound it in multi color strips.

 Here is the black side.

And here is the red side.

You can see the solid multi colored strips I used for the thin binding.  I like how it came out.  I think it would be great for a teen boy or even a dad.

WORKING ON MY BARGELLO QUILT AGAIN

HEY BLOGGIES,

I am finally working on my patriotic Bargello quilt again after all this time.  Woo hoo!!

I got the pieces out and ironed them all; now I am pinning and getting ready to sew them into tubes.  The next step will be to follow the pattern by cutting the tubes into certain widths and unsewing a spot on the top where each color is supposed to be in the top spot.

Sorry for the bad photo.  We have had 7 1/2 inches of rain in two days and it is still gray and overcast, threatening more rain!!  But I wanted to enter this into the Friday Finishes blogs.

I plan to donate this TV Throw to Surmounters, a Disabled Veterans charity where they work with Gypsy Horses in hand (no riding) to help them cope with their disabilities.  They get to pet them, brush them, some walk them around, some just talk to them.  Horses have such a calming effect for all people, and the Veterans sincerely appreciate that.
