Happy New Year

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. I am so looking forward to this new year of 2011. I was born on Jan 1, so my birthday this year is 1-1-11. Kind of cool - hope it means good luck or something good coming our way.

We have had a rough 2010 with my hubby being unemployed all year. It was rough and we have learned to appreciate how our ancestors made ends meet, especially during the depression and during the war years.

Cooking, planning and serving meals take a lot more time when you are cooking from scratch. But it is also more rewarding for me too!!

We have our health, we have family and good friends, and we pray that hubby will be blessed with a good job this year. Please keep us in your prayers.

I have so many wonderful ideas for workshops, especially for VALENTINES DAY. Won't you contact me and let me share my ideas with you and your friends? I am ready to demo a workshop at YOUR HOME.

A new family member has arrived

We have a new.... grandpig. Yep, a grand pig. Well, a pig now owned by my grandson, Kyle. This little piggie is so darned cute!!

The first day they brought him home and put him in the pen at the FFA Barn and he squeeled with fear from being away from his mommie and litter mates. There is a bit older piggie in the pen next to him and Milton (that is his new name) tried to squeeze through the bars to get to this other pig. He got his head stuck between the bars and this made him squeel with pain and fear. He now has bruises on both of his cheeks from trying to squeeze through. Poor baby. He would not eat for 3 days and would only let Kyle come near him. He is afraid of everyone else.

Kyle is in FFA for the first time and this is his show pig. He will learn valuable lessons by taking care of and showing his pig. He will be showing him at the Montgomery County Fair this spring.

CHRISTMAS CARDS, CANDLES, BANNERS AND FOOD....

We had a wonderful workshop at Jen R's home last night. We made the gingerbread boy card above from "Got Treats" stamp set and I showed them how to make the decorated matching candle for a gift bundle.

I also shared my newly created JOY banner that fits into the clearance rack tins for mailing. It would be considered a Christmas card by simply signing your name at the bottom and maybe including a family photo. What a GREAT gift and card in one!! I would welcome receiving a card like that in the mail from someone I love!!

Jen made the most wonderful FEAST of gumbo, dips, cookies, cakes, candies, and fruits. Several had some yummy wines to go along with these goodies.

Jen's daughter made a card as well so I know YOU can make this card as well...who me, you ask? YES YOU. You are the one who says, I AM NOT CRAFTY or I CAN'T DO THIS. YES YOU CAN. I can help you see that we all are crafty when we have the right tools and supplies.

Let me know what night works best for YOUR WORKSHOP full of YOUR FRIENDS, ok?

We are going to take Texas by storm!! Donna already has some wonderful ideas for her workshops and I hope I get invited so I can make them also. She is a very talented scrapbooker and does digital scrapbooking as well, not to mention her wonderful cards.

Welcome Donna to Stampin Up!

A GUEST DESIGNER on my blog today

I am featuring a GUEST DESIGNER on my blog today. My oldest daughter, Lesleigh Ross, designed these two Christmas cards featuring the wonderful stamp set SEASON OF JOY, item #110384, page 33 in the big catalog (IBC).

She used the flourish swirly stamp in the set with versamark to do the background on both stamps. On one of them she then put CRYSTAL EFFECTS item #101055, page 196, on the swirled images for a wonderful effect! Crystal effects also on the tree decorations, the flowers and the ink stamped swirls on the card as well. I LOVE crystal effects and all the things you can do with it.

She used DAZZLING DIAMONDS item #102023, page 96 on a lot of places she put the crystal effects for more BLING BLING.

Her color pallette for this card is Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive and Whisper White card stock (pages 166-169) and the DESIGNER PAPER JOLLY HOLIDAY item #117158, page 174.

Thank you Lesleigh for being my first guest designer on my blog!!

For those of you who live in UTAH, check out her FABULOUS CUPCAKES and AMAZING FONDANT SCULPTING at http://cupcakesbyles.blogspot.com

LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW!!!

So, my daughter in Utah says it snowed there last night and looks like more today. Here is Texas it is a sweltering 85+ with the humidity very hot and heavy.

HOWEVER, the heat does NOT stop me from feeling in the Holiday mood for tonight's workshop of SNOWFLAKES AND DAZZLING DIAMONDS AND MINI MILK CARTONS.

Beside this posting are some more photos of the treat holders/mini milk cartons for our holiday workshop. Beautiful BASHFUL BLUE and NATURAL WHITE cardstock, ribbon and ink, along with some shadowing with MARINA BLUE INK and some designer Series Paper from BLUEBERRY CRISP. Also some fine glitter from the glitter stacks and of course the big shot and snowflake dies.

When I first got the Blueberry Crips DSP, I did not like it much because it is kind of vintage and rubbed off in places. But once I got used to that, I am LOVING IT because of the mix of colors and the wonderful way it can be used with just about any theme. Doesn't it look like THE HOLIDAYS on this Winter Treat Holder??

Have a great day and leave me a message if you like my mini milk carton treat holders!!

GIVE ME A LITTLE SMOOCH, PLEASE!!

Oh my goodness, this is my FIRST time to use the new smooch spritz and I LOVE IT. I think the photo shows pretty well how it gives the card a unique shine. I LOVE IT. You can choose to use it on just one embellishment or layer, or all over the whole card like I did with this card. I LOVE IT.

Oh, by the way.... did I tell you I LOVE IT??!!

You MUST get this and try it. I used the vanilla smooch spritz. There are 4 different colors available. It is in a glass vial with a very fine spritzer on the top. I think this might last me for years and years because the spritz comes out so fine.

Click on SHOP NOW to order YOUR smooch spritz from my Stampin Up site.

Leave me a comment if you have used the smooch spritz, won't you?

SATURDAY AND THE LIVING IS EASY....

What an awesome day today!! First we listened to conference from the internet in the morning.

Then, my Christmas stamp-a-stack class was next. We made 6 cards - 3 of each of two designs, using the Dasher Stamp from the a-la-Carte cards on pages 16-19 in the catalog.

We had a yummy lunch and fun time talking and learning several new techniques - dry embossing with the big shot, heat embossing to make a wonderful gold reindeer named Dasher, and glittering everything that held still. (we were all sparkling when it was over!!)

Three sweet friends came to the class and we had the BEST TIME. Thanks Audrey, Susan and Dee. It was so fun to have you come to my home and make cards with me. We will have to do some more to get our cards all made for this year!!

As they were leaving, I remembered that I needed a photo, so I got one of Susan and Audrey holding their cards. Dee had already skeedaddled home. See the photo of the gals and their cards below.

DREAM, DREAM, DREAM....OOOOH (song)

Jan and Dean were brothers who sang some wonderful songs in the 60s. Do you remember their song DREAM? "When I want you, in my arms. When I want you, with all your charms. Whenever I want you all I have to do is DREAM."

Well, I thought about that song last night because at Dee's workshop we made DREAMSICLES - those yummy popsicles made from orange popsicle with vanilla icecream in the middle. I LOVED those as a kid.

Well last night, 8 ladies loved making those as cards. We had so much fun. We had 4 NEWBIES to stamping and they did a terrific job with the help of those sitting next to them who were pros already at cardmaking.

We all loved the little BITE out of the corner of the card to show the vanilla ice cream inside.

We made a candy treat to go with the card - a baggie of orange slice jellies (also a childhood fav) with a topper on it to match the card.

We used the TART AND TANGY stamp set with a sentiment from a retired set.

BUT I FORGOT TO TAKE PHOTOS OF EVERYONE HAVING FUN!! I WAS SO BUSY HELPING AND HAVING FUN THAT I TOTALLY FORGOT THE PHOTOS. OUCH!

MY FIRST RAG PURSE - A FLANNEL DIAPER BAG

As I promised, here are some photos of my first rag purse made with the scallop square die cut and my BIG SHOT. (What?? You have NOT gotten one yet?? = YOU NEED ONE...)

Anyway, I got some flannel cloth with froggies on it since my niece is having a boy. I thought these froggies were perfect for a baby boy's diaper bag.

It went together so very easy - just sew an X from corner to corner thru 3 layers - 2 layers of cloth and one layer of batting or thick interface. I bought the interface by the yard and it seems just like quilt batting.

I added fabric handles and a cute wooden button for the closure. As you can see in the photo, I also added 2 pockets inside for the bottle and some wipies. I think pockets are important in diaper bags.

See photos and let me know if you have any questions about how to make one yourself.

Then decide how large you want your diaper bag (I chose 3 square high and 3 squares wide for each side.)

124 mini milk cartons made, decorated and filled to give as gifts

At class yesterday, the participants made mini milk cartons and carriers, decorated them and prepared to give them away as gifts. A real service project with lots of FUN doing it.

We made 144 cartons total with holders for each set of 4. Everyone had such a fun time deciding how to decorate them with stamps, decorative paper, ink techniques, and embellishments. The embellishments were the favorite part for everyone, I believe. Brads of all colors, the new sparkly brads, paper flowers, those other flowers that you can ink, clips of all kinds, glitter, beads, glue on doo-dads (technical term for sure), etc. It was pure madness in a GOOD way.

Thank you Lesleigh for being such a wonderful hostess and putting up with all our mess and GLITTER everywhere. AND we all fell in love with those melt in your mouth cinnamon rolls. See Lesleigh's blog at CUPCAKESBYLES.BLOGSPOT.COM for more of her amazing eatible creations.

It was a fun but exhausting day. Thanks to everyone who came and participated. It was great to see old friends and meet new ones.

Happy Saturday to you and Happy Chocolate also!!

Yes, it is Monkey Saturday - which means CHOCOLATE FOR ALL. When my kids were very small, their dad used to tease them a lot. One tease that worked so many times was to tell my daughter, Lesleigh, that today was "Monkey Saturday". That is when everyone dresses up like monkeys and have a parade. She would get so excited and want to dress up like a monkey too!! Now married with kids of her own, she still talks about Monkey Saturday. It has evolved to mean anything we want it to mean. So MY Monkey Saturday means CHOCOLATE FOR ALL.

Above are some cute chocolate and candy wrapped for little "just because" gifts for neighbors, friends and family.

Enjoy! and Happy Monkey Saturday

Spring has arrived in wonderful TEXAS

Hi everyone: Spring is here and it is GLORIOUS!! There are so many different colors of the new greens that have popped up, opened up or bloomed. I LOVE SPRING. The best part is that H. Midy is NOT here yet...who is H. Midy you ask? It is my nickname for Hugh Midy Tee or HUMIDITY. Only in Spring and Fall for a few short weeks do we NOT have any humidity here in this Houston area of Texas and WE LOVE IT AND NOTICE IT WHEN IT IS NOT HERE.
